The Challenge:

With scores of DOE reporting organizations submitting separate spreadsheets to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), there were hundreds of risks and controls. While the process was meeting Federal requirements, the system was inefficient and clumsy. It was a challenge to consolidate and analyze information, and turn it into functional reports. It was also a costly system to maintain and difficult to accommodate any changes in requirements.

The Solution:

Edgewater, as an integral part of the Internal Controls Project Team composed of Federal and contractor staff, helped the DOE CFO develop an updated and efficient process. Edgewater took the lead on

Named “AMERICA,” the application is an A-123 Management of Entity Risks & Internal Controls Application. Backed by federal expertise, the application includes user-friendly input, upfront data validations, automated workflow, dashboards, and expanded reporting capabilities, which greatly enhances DOE’s Internal Controls Program and improves data analytics capabilities. The development of this application involved tremendous teamwork, leadership, and coordination with numerous reporting organizations and users across Headquarters, Field, Site and Management & Operating Contractor Offices.

The Outcome:

The program was launched in March 2019, and Edgewater continues to make enhancements. The application was the first of its kind within the Federal space, drawing interest from several Agencies.

The “AMERICA” application and Edgewater Team received The Secretary of Energy’s Achievement Award, and the application was also given the Gears of Government Award, sponsored by the Executive Office of the President. These awards recognize individuals and teams across the Federal workforce whose performance and dedication deliver key outcomes.
